Now: Finished — the only thing left is hanging it on your wall · Your light is complete. The cherry has had its oil and cured, the diffuser and the warm-white LEDs are fitted behind the lattice, and the piece has been closed up and run and checked for even light. It is finished and lit on the bench. All that remains is installation — bringing it to you and mounting it on your wall.
The Dowel Tree
Amman, Jordan
Now: Assembly — your tree is going together right now · Every part is turned and sanded, and the tree is being assembled: trunk, branches, twigs and the thirty beads your guests' leaves will hang from, all brought together and trued up. This takes two to three days. After that comes the oil finish, and then delivery in time for your event.
The Poetry Box

Now: Lid fitted — your name goes into the cherry next · The sliding lid is fitted and running true in its grooves, so the box is now a working box. Three things are left: the engraving — your name in Kufic on the lid and the hidden artwork on the floor — then final assembly, then the hardwax oil finish.
The Anchor

Now: Choosing your walnut · Your anchor is drawn to its real size — 70 mm tall, 60 mm across — so every curve is settled before a knife touches wood. It will be cut from one solid piece of walnut, no joins, and carved by hand rather than by machine: at this size a machine tends to break the thin points, and a hand-carved piece holds detail a cutter cannot reach. Next we go and pick the walnut itself.
The Black Casket

Now: Choosing the wood · Your design is settled and approved — the black-and-gold casket outside, and inside the lid the pale panel that carries her symbols around a mirror. Right now we are choosing the wood: a hardwood for the casket body, and a piece of pale maple with quiet, even grain for the panel inside the lid, because that panel is the one surface where the wood itself is seen and it has to take fine engraving without fighting back.
